Is a program that offers pregnant women, infants, and young children services that promote healthy pregnancies and healthy babies. All Healthy Start services are FREE and are based on need not income or insurance.
Healthy Start services, which are provided through the Pinellas County Health Department, include care coordination, home visiting services, breastfeeding education and support, childbirth education, parenting support, smoking cessation, nutritional care and other services.
The Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas is one of thirty-one coalitions throughout Florida. It is a community based, private, non-profit organization focused on improving the health and well being of pregnant women, their children and families.
While the Coalition does not directly provide services to families, it oversees a system of care that has served over 50,000 families in the past decade.
The functions of the Healthy Start Coalition are: to conduct needs assessments, develop community level strategic plans to improve pregnancy outcomes and enhance child development, to allocate funds received from the State of Florida and private sources to service providers and to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of services.
Since its inception in 1992, the Healthy Start Coalition of Pinellas, Inc. has served thousands of families helping to improve pregnancy outcomes, improve the health of children and enhance child development.
Our membership consists of community based agencies, health care providers, program participants, business representatives, policy makers, government representatives, community leaders, physicians, managed care representatives, and other concerned residents interested in improving maternal and child health outcomes.
